SAWITRI Theatre Group (created in 2003), an award-winning incorporated not-for-profit organization is the founder and of the Alliance of South Asian Performing Artists (AoSAPA).

SAWITRI presents original, challenging and exciting works featuring established professionals as well as emerging artists and has produced theatre works in English, Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi.

AoSAPA.ca is an interactive space for professional South Asian artists in the performing arts and creators of South Asian performing arts events to meet, market, create, explore, inspire and ignite conversations.

We invite such artists to make connections build careers, build capacity, foster community and create a lasting legacy for South Asian artists in Canada.

For this portal, we adapt the modern understanding of South Asia, that includes India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives.

If you are NOT a South Asian, but are a professional practitioner of a South Asian artform you may still be eligible to join our ARTIST DATABASE.

The Ontario Arts Council defines a professional artist or arts professional as someone who has developed skills through training or practice, is recognized by artists working in the same artistic tradition, has a history of public presentation or publication.

Such individuals seeks payment for their work and actively practice their art. Short breaks in artistic work history are acceptable.
